A2 COFC+ Drone Course

The A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 CofC) course is a UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)-accredited programme designed for aspiring and current drone pilots who wish to operate drones commercially or recreationally in the Open Category, particularly “close to people” within the A2 subcategory. This qualification is suitable for drones up to 2kg and is essential for safe, legal, and compliant drone operations under current UK regulations.

Description

The PQMS plus version is taught as a 2 day course to provide additional elements over and above the certificate of competency. Including basic photogrammetry and will include over 2 hours of practical flying. The main aims and objectives are

  • Equip drone pilots with the knowledge and skills to operate drones safely and legally within the A2 subcategory of the Open Category, including built-up areas and closer to uninvolved people.
  • Ensure pilots understand and can apply CAA regulations, air law, operating principles, aviation safety, human performance, meteorology, navigation, and flight planning.
  • Enable pilots to fly drones weighing up to 2kg in areas used for recreational, industrial, residential, and commercial purposes, while maintaining required distances from uninvolved people.
  • Provide a pathway for both recreational and commercial pilots to expand their operational permissions without the need for an operations manual or annual renewal.
  • Promote safe, responsible, and competent drone operation in compliance with UK law

Prerequisites

  • CAA Flyer ID
  • Self declaration of practical flight competence (Building Blocks) NB self cert is not required as these hours will be covered in the course.

  • Hi Visibility clothing will be provided by PQMS.
